Onuma Quasi-National Park

Onuma Quasi-National Park is a beautiful and picturesque park located on the Oshima Peninsula in southwest Hokkaidō, Japan. Designated as a quasi-national park in 1958, it covers an area of 90.83 square kilometers and is the smallest major park in Hokkaidō. The park is known for its stunning natural features, including the volcanic Mount Komagatake, Ōnuma and Konuma ponds, and lush birch and maple forests. The ponds, formed by mudflows from Hokkaidō Komagatake, are dotted with watershields and surrounded by scenic landscapes.

Onuma Quasi-National Park (大沼国定公園, Ōnuma Kokuteikōen) 

Visitors to Onuma Quasi-National Park can explore the park's most attractive area located between the two lakes, Ōnuma and Konuma. This area can be easily explored on foot, with attractive walking courses that allow visitors to explore the lakes' peninsulas and islands connected by small bridges. The park also offers bicycle rentals, allowing visitors to cycle around Lake Onuma and explore the surrounding area. The bike rentals are available for around 500 yen per hour or 1000 yen per day.  

In addition to its natural beauty, Onuma Quasi-National Park offers a range of activities for visitors to enjoy. Visitors can explore the calm waters of Lake Onuma and take in the park's beautiful scenery by taking one of the sightseeing boat tours, which are offered during the warmer months. The boat tours are available during the warmer seasons and depart approximately every 40 minutes, with each tour lasting about 30 minutes. The cost for the sightseeing boat tour is 1320 yen per person.  

Aside from boat tours, Onuma Quasi-National Park offers a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy. This includes hiking, canoeing, tennis, golf, fishing, and camping. The park hosts various events throughout the year, such as the Onuma Lake Water Festival in summer and the Snow and Ice Fair in winter, featuring illuminated snow and ice sculptures.

Access 

To reach Onuma Quasi-National Park, visitors can take a limited express train from Hakodate to Onuma Koen Station, which is centrally located within the park. The journey from Hakodate Station to Onuma Koen Station takes approximately 45 minutes by limited express train (1270 yen by non-reserved seat) or one hour by local train (640 yen). Most limited express trains from Hakodate to Sapporo and vice versa make a brief stop at Onuma Koen Station. Alternatively, visitors can reach the park by car in about 30 minutes from central Hakodate along National Route 5 (国道5号) or a 220 kilometers drive from Sapporo about 3 hours and 12 minutes via National Route 230 (国道230号) and Hokkaido Jukan Expressway/Hokkaido Expressway (北海道縦貫自動車道/道央自動車道).
